No Lindsay in Mean Girls 2

Cautionary tale Lindsay Lohan will not be reprising her role in the straight-to-DVD Mean Girls sequel, Mean Girls 2.  With the exception of Tim Meadows, no one from the original cast will, in fact, be making an appearance.  The film, which Home Media Magazine reports has begun shooting, will center on a whole new cast of characters played by Jennifer Stone (Wizards of Waverly Place), Meaghan Jette Martin (Camp Rock franchise), and Maiara Walsh (Desperate Housewives).

Flick is helmed by veteran TV director Melanie Mayron (tons of In Treatment, plus the feature Slap Her… She’s French).  Writers include Elana Lesser and Cliff Ruby (lots of Barbie movies, Balto).

While it’s not shocking that Lohan will not be reprising her role (straight-to-DVD sequels rarely retain the original stars) the likely reason is a little unusual.  I doubt she’s priced out of the role or “too good for direct-to-video” (she starred in Labor Pains last year).  If I had to guess, I’d say either (a) her image has taken such a tumble that the Disney/ABC Family direction they seem to be taking this franchise (based on some of the casting and earlier rumors) wouldn’t fit and/or (b) they can’t insure her.
