Humble Pie Review: Better Than Napoleon Dynamite
Scott Weinberg over at Cinematical reviewed Humble Pie when it hit the 2007 Philly Film Fest as American Fork. He was impressed with the flick’s portrayal of the hopeless-yet-endearing protagonist, balancing pathos with strangely compelling mundanity. Pie comes from the producer of Napoleon Dynamite and, sez Weinberg, has a similar feel, but…
“…in many ways it’s actually a better film. Sure, it doesn’t have the catch phrases or the funny hair of Napoleon, but American Fork does seem to have a bit more affection for its characters than the other film does.”
Starring the film’s screenwriter Hubbel Palmer in the lead, the movie boasts a supporting cast that includes Kathleen Quinlan, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Bruce McGill, and Billy Baldwin building on the indie goodwill he established in The Squid and the Whale.
Humble Pie drops December 8. You can pre-order it here.
