The Echo, starring Jesse Bradford as a recently released convict who must contend not only with domestic violence next door but paranormal activity in his own apartment, is director Yam Laranas’ remake of his own Sigaw, which came straight outta the Philippines in ‘04. By most accounts, the film is a success, combining traditional Asian horror staples with moody, slow-burn storytelling enhanced by Bradford’s layered performance.
Twitch and BeyondHollywood were particularly impressed, while DreadCentral thought the plotting was maybe too slow and the Asian horror cliches maybe too, um, cliched – still they gave it 3.5/5 stabby knives. Amazon’s 3 reviewers averaged it at 3.5 stars as well (one hated it; two loved it), while IMDb rates it at 6/10 with 611 votes counted.
Oh, and dude who played Keamy on Lost (Kevin Durand) is totally up in here, too.
