Top 10 Straight-to-DVD Rentals for Week Ending 11/1/09
(source Video Business)
- The Maiden Heist
- Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead
- Trick ‘r Treat
- Lies & Illusions
- Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure
- 2012: Supernova
- Stan Helsing
- Assassination of a High School President
- The Hills Run Red
- The Code
Morgan Freeman bookending this week’s rental chart. The Miaden Heist, also starring William H. Macy and Christopher Walken, taking the top spot and perennial charter The Code bringing up the rear.
Tinker Bell debuting a bit lower, right in the middle of the charts (don’t worry, it’s a much brighter picture on the sales charts, you don’t need to clap or anything).
Can’t imagine why a movie named 2012 would be popular right now. And yes, that would be The Asylum‘s take on Roland Emmerich.
Horror comedy Stan Helsing debuting right behind it, though I have to question its straight-to-DVD credentials as I’m pretty sure it had a limited theatrical release.

The Charts: A Treat for Trick
Top 10 Straight-to-DVD Rentals for Week Ending 10/11/09
(source Video Business)
- Trick ‘r Treat
- Lies & Illusions
- Assassination of a High School President
- It’s Alive
- Dark Country
- The Hills Run Red
- The Code
- Bring it On: Fight to the Finish
- Blood & Bone
- The Thaw
Trick ‘r Treat debuting strong at number one, vindicating the anitcipation and praise that has followed it on the long road to release. Assassination also making an impressive bow, ending an almost-as-endless stay in distribution purgatory. Right behind it is a remake of It’s Alive. So, yeah, that happened. And lest you think that our beloved Kilmer had disappeaerd completely from the charts, he’s in at number 10 with Arctic chiller (see what I did there?) The Thaw.

Interviews: Wrong Turn 3 Director, Star

Retro Slashers has an interview with Wrong Turn 3 star Janet Montgomery, who also stars in The Hills Run Red. Meanwhile Bloody Disgusting chats with the diirector, Declan O’Brien, who talks about tweaking the beautiful-people-vs.-cannibal-hillbillies premise of the first two and throwing some escaped convicts into the mix.
They’re not even bothering with a rating for this one (as with part two) and, to look at the nasty trailer, that’s probably for the best.
Wrong Turn 3 drops October 20th. You can pre-order it here.
The Hills Run Red Review: Adequate, Unoriginal

About.com has an underwhelmed take on The Hills Run Red, a horror flick about a lost horror flick that featured a fictional villain who turns out to be real and hurty. In spite of a promising premise, it seems the movie “eventually degrades into the same ol’ stuff about city folk running afoul of backwoods maniacs.” The film stars William Sadler, though, so it can’t be all bad.
